The sites are huge and very private in the lower pines area. Large pine trees offered welcome shade in the August heat. The staff was very friendly. They had a big pig roast and it appeared everyone who attended had a good time. We do not socialize much. We camp for family time. Some of the seasonal sites were a little run down. The campground is about 30 minutes from Amish country, and 45 minutes from Longwood Gardens. It also appears to be much development of residental home next to the campground. It takes away from the camping experience.

We camped at Big Timber Lake for one week for the past 2 years. There are plenty of amenities, we do not really use them. Sites are big and clean. Avalon beach is only 15 minutes away. It is the most beautiful beach in New Jersey. The only complaints I have is that you get alot of sand in your trailer and the bugs are very hungry. Bring your bug spray.

This campground is strictly for parking your trailer and visiting Arcadia National Park. You are on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island. You can hear the lighthouse. A free shuttle pulls up to the campsite in case you don't want to drive to Bar Harbor. It stops at all the popular sightseeing places. The pool was nothing special, but this is not the place to hang out at your campsite for the day. Beautiful stargazing.
